Pacific Parliamentary Partnerships Programme LaunchThe Office of the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly of Samoa, today launched its Corporate Plan 2013-2015, redesigned Website and the Pacific Parliamentary Partnerships Programme.
The Corporate Plan spans over the next three years and provides an overview of the Office’s strategic direction and outlines its seven key priorities in the delivery of quality services to the Parliament, Members and the public in general. This will mainly be done through the on-going professional development of its staff to ensure that they are better prepared for their responsibilities to support parliamentarians and the public as well as delivering on expected results under the direction of the Clerk.
The Plan provides the vision and mission of the Office which is “to be a model service provider in the Pacific through engaging and sustaining Parliamentarians and the Community “ as well as reflects the commitment made by the Government of Samoa for enhanced service delivery and Improved Governance expected of public sector agencies under Samoa’s Development Strategy.
The improved Website takes Parliament to the people of Samoa by providing instant access and better web information on the role, functions, processes and procedures of Parliament. The Website will improve the availability and accessibility of parliamentary information. It is user friendly and a source of parliamentary news and parliamentary education and community outreach programmes.
The launch of the Pacific Parliamentary Partnerships Programme formalises the link between Parliamentarians from Australia and Samoa. The Programme fosters relationships between Parliamentarians and encourages cooperation on issues of mutual interest.
Special guests at the launch included the Australian Parliamentary Delegation comprising of: the Parliamentary Secretary for Trade Kelvin Thomson, Federal Member of Parliament Alan Griffin, Senator Helen Polley and Tasmania Shadow Minister for Human Service Jacquie Petrusma, as well as Chief Executive Officers of Samoa Government.

Alan Griffin - Senator Helen Polley - Kelvin Thomson and Jacque Petrusma
Australian parliamentarians arrived in Apia on the weekend to launch the Parliamentary Partnerships Programme this week. The programme will strengthen links between Parliamentarians from Australia and Samoa.
The Australian delegation includes:
- Parliamentary Secretary for Trade Kelvin Thomson
- Federal Member of Parliament Alan Griffin
- Senator Helen Polley
- Tasmania Shadow Minister for Human Service Jacquie Petrusma
In Samoa, the delegation and their Samoan counterparts will:
- Share information and experience about the role and work of parliamentarians
- Consider joint projects to support the work of parliament
- Share ideas and new ways to parliamentary work
- Learn about issues in Samoa and Australia
Today the delegation will attend a pre-sitting briefing at Maota Tofilau Eti Alesana, with local Members as well as a workshop to discuss possible opportunities to work together and strengthen newly established links.
Tomorrow, Tuesday 26March 2013, the delegation will observe Samoa Parliament’s sitting and will be special guests at the launching of the Corporate Plan for the Office of the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly and a redeveloped Website for the Parliament of Samoa.
On Wednesday 27th March 2013, the delegation will participate in a constituency visit with a local Parliamentarian so they can better understand the role of a parliamentarian in Samoa.
The visit is an initiative under the Samoa Parliamentary Support Project which is funded by AusAID and Government of Samoa, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme and the Pacific Parliamentary Partnerships Programme.
